Ep.26 – Guiding young children through transitions, challenging circumstances, and sad events

How do you explain the terrible events that we see in the news to young children without scaring them while still being authentic and honest? How do you explain "death," divorce, and bullying? To help us, we invited Vanessa McMullan, LCSW, of the North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center located at 80 North Service Road, Manhasset, NY 11030 to discuss these extremely challenging topics. Our conversation also explored other issues impacting young children: upheaval (whether moving or the loss of a family member or divorce), children's understanding of their world, and expression of fear, anger, and sadness, and alcohol, and drug use. This show was inspired by the need to reach out and help children and their care givers. We hope this show bring comfort and awareness and provides an invaluable resource to our listeners. I am grateful to Vanessa for her wisdom, experience, and knowledge. For more information: https://www.northshorechildguidance.org
